Opt-In Lists

I don’t believe all the sales letters that you see that tell you that they can make you a millionaire in mere hours from the time you download their user friendly product.  I do believe in miracles but I don’t believe all the sales hype around the miraculous properties of the internet to change your life just by sitting at your computer.

You can either choose to believe it all the sales letters or do something about your long-term business and internet success. When you have a goal, you generally have a plan of attack. Building your internet business is no different.

Building an opt-in list is very important. Not only is it important, it’s great fun to have the opportunity to correspond and interact with others. Plan to integrate an opt-in plan for your site or blog as soon as possible. They are pretty necessary to repeat business and profit.

An opt-in list is the best, most effective and smartest option that you can use to make it big. It is one thing to stay in business and it is another thing to have a profitable business. Profit can be made from your opt-in list but don’t do it at the expense of the value that you are adding to your subscribers!

Anyone that has spent more then a month on the web researching this business will have a pretty short fuse for autoresponder emails from opt-in sites that do not give something back. It doesn’t take long to un-subscribe from a list.

What is an opt-in list?

An opt-in list is the list of people who have decided to subscribe to your website for either email updates or because of products that they have purchased from you.

Why should I choose to put an opt-in list on my site?

To put it bluntly, if your customers have brought from you once then they are twice as likely to buy from you again. That is, providing that your product wasn’t a total let down and your content and updates are relevant to their needs.

Email addresses will allow you to contact your customers when other great deals or interesting tidbits come your way that you can share. This way you still stay close to your clients and manage to help them along their way as well.  Opt-ins should be win-win not win-lose. Your business will never sustain the hits.

Opt-ins will also save you a heap of time as you can efficiently and effectively deliver product information to your list.

Do’s:

  1. Have a subscribe link on all pages.
  2. Promote your website and promote again to broaden your subscriber base
  3. Offer contests and/or giveaway freebies in exchange for email addresses
  4. Provide relevant information, articles and updates to your clients with links in it.
  5. Offer free courses.
  6. Use your signature on all correspondence
  7. Network. Join some groups to help you build relationships outside of the internet.

Do Not’s:

  1. Don’t spam your subscribers. We all get enough of that as it is without doing it to those who supposedly opt-in to a mutually trustworthy relationship.
  2. Avoid pop-ups. They can be annoying too.
  3. Don’t flood your subscribers with too much information. Again, information overload is not good. We’re all stressed enough already!

There are big benefits to having a large subscriber list but treat your subscribers as you would like to be treated.
